The Bukinda Sub-county Youth Chairman, Tumuhamireho Gilbert, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of LC5 Male Youth Councillor for Rukiga District in the 2026–2031 term.
Tumuhamireho—popularly known as “Owekitegye-International”said his nickname stems from his school days when he reported to Senior One carrying his study materials in a traditional ekitengye.
Speaking after his declaration, Tumuhamireho vowed to be a strong voice for the youth in the district council, promising to champion issues that directly affect young people.“I am committed to advocating for unity and togetherness among all youth across Rukiga District, because unity is the foundation of development,” he said.
The youth leader emphasized that his candidature is built on inclusivity, representation, and empowerment, noting that the challenges facing young people in the district such as unemployment, limited opportunities, and inadequate participation in decision-making require strong advocacy at the council level.
If elected, he pledged to spearhead initiatives that will uplift youth voices and ensure their concerns are adequately addressed in the district’s development agenda.
