Kabale-Counsel Dan Musinguzi Nabaasa, an aspirant for the Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament seat, has called on voters to prioritize manifestos and competence over religious identity when choosing leaders.
Musinguzi made the remarks on Friday during a voter education engagement session organized by Kigezi Media Services in partnership with the Electoral Commission at White Horse Inn, Makanga, in Kabale Municipality.
He expressed concern that many voters were increasingly basing their decisions on religious affiliations rather than the capability and vision of the candidates.
“People these days are voting leaders based on identity, mostly on religion. If this trend continues, we are going to lose out on capable leaders and end up with those who lack a genuine and clear manifesto to develop our areas,” he warned.
Musinguzi emphasized that voters should elect leaders based on their ideology, service-oriented programs, and development agenda, rather than sectarian considerations. He added that a manifesto-driven approach to politics would ensure that leaders are held accountable to their promises and deliver tangible results.
The engagement, which attracted political aspirants, religious leaders, civil society representatives, and members of the public, was aimed at promoting civic awareness and discouraging sectarian tendencies ahead of the forthcoming elections.
