Maziba, Ndorwa East-Counsel Elvis Twenda, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag aspirant for Ndorwa East County, has placed education and healthcare at the center of his campaign message as he continues to canvass for support ahead of the party primaries.
While meeting residents in the parishes of Kavu and Karweru in Maziba Sub-county on Sunday, Twenda reaffirmed his commitment to improving education standards across the constituency, describing education as the foundation for community transformation.“Education is the backbone of development. If we empower our children with quality education, we secure the future of Ndorwa East,” Twenda told residents.
In his address, Twenda also unveiled plans to lobby for more health centers at the parish level and to push for increased deployment of medical personnel.
He noted that many communities in the area still struggle with access to quality healthcare, and this gap must be closed to ensure healthier, more productive lives.“As a leader, it’s our responsibility to ensure that no mother walks miles to access treatment, and no child is left unattended due to lack of health workers,” he said.
Beyond education and health, Twenda also promised to promote sports in the region. He proposed the establishment of a sports academy aimed at nurturing local talent, while also providing a commercial platform for youth development.“Sports is no longer just entertainment—it is a business. With proper structures, our youth can earn a living through sports, and this can ease the burden on parents struggling with school fees,” he noted.
Twenda urged residents to reject divisive politics based on identity and emphasized the importance of unity and peaceful elections.“I believe in issue-based politics. Let’s focus on what can transform our communities, not on who comes from where,” he said.
As the NRM primaries draw closer, Twenda’s message continues to resonate with many residents seeking change and development in Ndorwa East.
