Counsel Eliab Naturinda Mporera Defeats Minister Bahati in Tight NRM Primary for Ndorwa West

Kabale District-In a stunning political upset, Counsel Eliab Naturinda Mporera has emerged victorious in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary elections for the Ndorwa West parliamentary seat, defeating incumbent MP and State Minister for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, Hon. David Bahati.

The closely contested race featured three candidates:Hon. Eliab Naturinda Mporera 25,027 votes, Hon. David Bahati 23,759 votes Hon. Edward Mwesigwa 416 votes

The results mark the end of Minister Bahati’s long reign as Ndorwa West’s representative.

While announcing the results at 2:54 am, the NRM returning officer, Babra Ainebyona, urged residents of Ndorwa West to remain calm, united, and peaceful. She congratulated Mporera on his hard-fought victory and commended all candidates for participating in a competitive race.

Speaking to the press shortly after his victory, Hon. Eliab Naturinda Mporera extended an olive branch to his opponents and specifically called on Minister Bahati to join hands with him in promoting the development of Ndorwa West and strengthening the NRM party in Kabale.

“I am committed to unity and service. I humbly invite my brother Hon. Bahati and all other leaders to walk this journey together for the betterment of our constituency and the NRM party,” Mporera said.

The Ndorwa West NRM flag bearer pledged inclusive leadership, promising to focus on development, youth empowerment, and unity among party members as the region prepares for the 2026 general elections.
