Kampala-Ndorwa County West NRM flag bearer and Constituency NRM Chairperson, Hon. Eliab Naturinda Mporera, earlier today paid a courtesy visit to the former Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, at his office located at the Kingdom Kampala Building.

The meeting, which was described as strategic and forward looking, focused on revitalizing the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party structures in Kabale District and the wider Kigezi Sub-region, with a special emphasis on youth empowerment, grassroots mobilization, and leadership unity.

According to Hon. Mporera, the engagement aimed at drawing from the vast political experience of Dr. Rugundaan elder statesman and one of the region’s most respected leaders.

The two discussed practical ways to build momentum ahead of the 2026 general elections by strengthening party structures and mobilizing key demographics, especially the youth.

“The future of the NRM and the stability of our region lies in the hands of an empowered, economically active, and politically conscious youth,” Hon. Mporera said after the meeting. “We need to go beyond slogans and implement real, practical programs that help young people participate in both the economic and political life of our region.”

He further stressed that political mobilization can no longer be centered on promises but must be anchored in tangible actions, such as entrepreneurship support, vocational skills training, digital inclusion, and youth leadership development.

Rt. Hon. Rugunda, while welcoming the visit, praised Mporera for his proactive leadership and pledged his support toward initiatives that aim to consolidate the gains of the NRM in Kigezi.

He emphasized the value of building intergenerational bridges between seasoned political leaders and emerging young politicians.

“What we do today in terms of mentoring, guiding, and empowering the youth will determine the strength and relevance of our party tomorrow,” Rugunda reportedly said during the meeting.

Both leaders agreed on the urgent need to unify NRM leaders and supporters in the region to avoid internal divisions that often weaken the party’s grassroots presence.

They also discussed the importance of revamping ideological training to ensure that NRM’s core values—patriotism, self-reliance, and Pan-Africanism are internalized by the youth.

The meeting comes at a critical time as the NRM party prepares for internal restructuring and grassroots elections, ahead of a tough general election cycle.

Hon. Mporera, who is increasingly seen as one of the emerging young political forces** in the region, has vowed to prioritize inclusive leadership, youth programs, and infrastructure development in his constituency and beyond.

Political observers view this meeting as part of a broader strategy to reconnect the NRM with its base in Kigezi, a region historically aligned with the party but facing growing youth frustration due to unemployment and limited political inclusion.

Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda served as Uganda’s Prime Minister from 2014 to 2021 and remains a senior advisor within the NRM.

His influence in Kigezi politics remains significant, and many politicians continue to seek his counsel on matters of party unity and strategy.

Hon. Eliab Mporera, meanwhile, has been actively engaging youth groups, SACCOs, and local development initiatives in Ndorwa West, advocating for policy driven leadership and homegrown solutions to community challenges.

The outcomes of this high-level meeting are expected to influence both NRM’s internal cohesion and electoral preparedness in the coming months.
