Kabale, Uganda – Hon. Alex Edgar Muhwezi, a parliamentary hopeful for Kabale Municipality, has called on residents to put national unity above tribal and religious identities as the country heads into another heated political season.
Addressing the press in an interview, Muhwezi cautioned that sectarianism is not only divisive but also detrimental to economic progress, especially in an era where financial growth and job creation are paramount. “We are busy with religion instead of pushing for more factories to come to Kigezi region,” he said, urging locals to avoid mixing politics with religion and tribe.
Muhwezi expressed concern over the growing trend of politicians campaigning along religious lines, questioning the tangible benefits such divisions bring.
“How does religion create jobs for our youth? Does it help us eliminate poverty and ensure justice?” he asked, emphasizing that leaders should be chosen based on their ability to address pressing challenges facing the community.
He encouraged residents of Kabale Municipality and Kigezi region as well to focus on electing leaders to prioritize development, job creation, and poverty eradication, rather than those who exploit religious or tribal differences for political gain. “Let’s unite for the common good and work together to build a prosperous future for all,” Muhwezi in his words.
Hon Alex Edgar Muhwezi will be contesting to represent Kabale municipality in the 12th Parliament of Uganda in general elections that will be conducted in January 2026.
