KAMPALA – The Uganda Electoral Commission has announced the commencement of special interest group elections campaign for parish level committees for persons with disabilities, older persons, and youth. The campaign will take place from June 30th to July 5th, 2025.
According to Julius Mucunguzi, the spokesperson of the Electoral Commission, “The Electoral College for parish level committees comprises of those who were elected at the village level committees for the youth, for older persons, and for persons with disabilities.”
Mucunguzi emphasized the importance of adhering to electoral guidelines during the campaign period, warning candidates against bribery, hate speech, and spreading fake news on digital media and social media. “A bribery or facilitation of that nature that is an inducement for people to vote for you is an offense, is an extra offense and has penalties within the law,” he stated.
The Electoral Commission urges all candidates and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid any behavior that may cause violence. Mucunguzi noted that “what we want is a peaceful electoral process that gives pride to our country and gives pride to our communities that will leave our communities peaceful, full of development and progressing.”
The Commission has issued guidelines that candidates must follow during the campaign period, and Mucunguzi encouraged all stakeholders to adhere to these guidelines to ensure a smooth and peaceful electoral process.
