Munanyeza, Nagawa Bow Out as Ecobank Uganda Applauds Transformational Leadership

Ecobank Uganda today honored its outgoing Board Chairperson, Richard Munanyeza, and outgoing Board Director, Fatuma Sentongo Nagawa, during a farewell dinner held at the Grand Ballroom, Four Points by Sheraton Kampala, in recognition of their distinguished leadership and invaluable contribution to the Bank’s growth and governance.

The event brought together members of the Board, senior management, employees, regulators, customers, business leaders, and strategic partners to celebrate the achievements of two leaders whose stewardship has helped shape Ecobank Uganda into one of the country’s leading financial institutions.

During his tenure as the outgoing board chairperson, Richard Munanyeza provided strategic leadership that strengthened the Bank’s governance, enhanced its resilience, and reinforced its long-term growth strategy. Working alongside the board and management, he helped guide Ecobank Uganda through a period of continued expansion, innovation and stronger customer engagement, while maintaining high standards of accountability and corporate governance.

Board Director Fatuma Sentongo Nagawa also played a significant role in strengthening board oversight, contributing strategic insight and professional expertise that supported the Bank’s continued progress and institutional stability.

Speaking during the farewell dinner, the outgoing board chairperson, Richard Munanyeza, said, “Serving as board chairperson of Ecobank Uganda has been a tremendous honour. Together with the Board, management, employees and our stakeholders, we have built a stronger institution founded on integrity, resilience and a shared commitment to our customers. I leave with immense pride in what we have achieved together and every confidence that the Bank will continue to grow from strength to strength.”

Speaking at the farewell dinner, Grace Muliisa, Ecobank Uganda Managing Director, said, “Richard Munanyeza and Fatuma Sentongo Nagawa have made an extraordinary contribution to Ecobank Uganda. Their leadership, wisdom, and unwavering commitment have strengthened our institution and inspired everyone who has had the privilege of working alongside them. On behalf of the management team and all our employees, I extend our heartfelt appreciation for their years of dedicated service. Their legacy will continue to guide us as we build on the strong foundation they helped create and continue delivering value to our customers and communities.”

David Frederick Kisitu Mpanga, the incoming Board Chairperson, paid tribute to both outgoing leaders, acknowledging the enduring legacy they leave behind, and in his speech, he said, “Richard Munanyeza’s leadership has been defined by integrity, vision, and a steadfast commitment to strong governance. Together with Fatuma Sentongo Nagawa, they have helped establish a solid foundation for Ecobank Uganda’s continued success. We are grateful for their service and remain committed to building on the legacy they leave behind as we guide the Bank into its next chapter.”

Guests at the dinner reflected on the milestones achieved during Richard Munanyeza’s tenure, including strengthening the Bank’s governance framework, expanding customer-focused banking solutions, enhancing operational resilience and reinforcing Ecobank Uganda’s position within the country’s financial services sector.

Special recognition was also accorded to Fatuma Sentongo Nagawa for her distinguished service on the Board. Her thoughtful leadership, sound judgement, and commitment to excellence have made a lasting contribution to the Bank’s governance and strategic direction.

As Ecobank Uganda enters a new chapter of leadership, the bank remains committed to building on this strong governance legacy while delivering innovative financial solutions, expanding financial inclusion and supporting Uganda’s economic transformation.
