KISORO-Police in Kisoro District are investigating a tragic road accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian in Muteto Trading Centre along the Kibande–Muteto road.

The incident occurred today at 5:41 PM and involved a Fuso truck, registration number UBK 505T, white in colour, which was reportedly transporting cabbage.

The deceased has been identified as Wilson Nambajimana, a male adult resident of Gitebe Village, Kagezi Parish, Kanaba Sub-county in Kisoro District.

According to police reports, the Fuso truck developed a mechanical fault while ascending a hill. In an attempt to assist the vehicle, bystanders began pushing it. Unfortunately, the truck failed to climb, rolled backwards, and overturned knocking down and killing Nambajimana instantly.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and noted that the scene was promptly visited by ASP Ainomugisha Musa, the District Traffic Officer, assisted by PC Mugisa Nicholas and the crew on police patrol vehicle UP 7644.

The body of the deceased was transported to Kisoro Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination.

Eye witness statements have been recorded to aid the ongoing investigations.

The vehicle involved has since been towed and is currently parked at Kisoro Central Police Station, pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).

ASP Maate assured the public that inquiries into the matter are underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
