Kampala, Uganda – May 5, 2025 – The Electoral Commission has announced that all 38,315 polling stations across the country, including the previously delayed 620 stations, have now commenced the display of the National Voters Register. This exercise, which began on April 25, 2025, will run for 21 days, allowing citizens to verify their registration details and report any discrepancies.
According to Julius Muchunguzi, spokesperson for the Electoral Commission, the display of the National Voters Register is a critical step towards ensuring the credibility of the electoral process. “We urge all Ugandans to take this exercise seriously and participate in the scrutiny of the voters register,” he said. “This is an opportunity for citizens to ensure that their names are on the register, that the photographs match their identities, and to report any inaccuracies or irregularities.”
The Electoral Commission has emphasized that the display of the National Voters Register is a statutory requirement, and that the commission is committed to ensuring that the register is clean and credible. Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, has stressed that a credible voters register is the foundation of a credible election.
During the 21-day display period, electoral staff will be available at each polling station from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., including weekends and public holidays, to assist citizens in verifying their registration details. Citizens can report any discrepancies or irregularities to the electoral staff, who will guide them through the process of rectifying the issues.
The Electoral Commission has also reminded citizens that those who are found to be improperly registered will be removed from the register through the legal process, which includes appearing before parish tribunals established to look into complaints emerging from the exercise.
“We are committed to ensuring that the electoral process is transparent, credible, and inclusive,” said Muchunguzi. “We urge all Ugandans to participate in this exercise and help us build a clean and credible voters register.”
The display of the National Voters Register is a significant milestone in Uganda’s electoral journey, and the Electoral Commission is confident that with the participation of citizens, the exercise will yield a credible and accurate register that will form the basis of a credible election.
