First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni has publicly expressed gratitude to Ugandans for their prayers and support following her recovery from a recent health scare, declaring that her experience is proof that “God is a living God.”

In an emotional message shared after her 78th birthday celebrations, Janet said her recovery had strengthened her faith and reaffirmed her belief in God’s power.

“It’s me, Janet Museveni. It is a confirmation that the God I talk about is a living God. He is not a myth; He lives!” she wrote.

“I Must Thank Uganda, Beginning with Mzee”
The First Lady went on to thank President Yoweri Museveni, whom she referred to as “Mzee,” for standing with her in prayer alongside the rest of the country during her illness.

“I must therefore thank Uganda, beginning with Mzee, who has prayed with the whole nation. I praise God for leading us to know Him. Thank you all for coming out publicly to pray for me,” she said.

Janet also thanked Ugandans for the overwhelming birthday wishes and continued prayers she has received in recent days.

“Thank you for all those continuous prayers and also for the kind birthday wishes. Thank you for letting me know just how much I am loved,” she added.

Her message comes a day after President Museveni revealed that the First Lady had suffered a life-threatening health challenge on March 21, 2026. The President said she survived after what he described as God’s intervention through the work of dedicated medical professionals, and confirmed that she is now recovering well.

The exchange of heartfelt messages from Uganda’s First Couple has offered the public a rare glimpse into their personal lives, with both expressing deep gratitude for the prayers, support and goodwill extended by Ugandans during what they described as one of the family’s most challenging moments.
