President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today commissioned 16 new factories at the Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park.
This event also marked the commencement of comprehensive infrastructure development for the park, a transformative endeavor set to reshape Uganda’s industrial landscape.
Spanning 619 acres in the Mbale District, the Mbale Industrial Park has emerged as a crucial nexus for economic growth and innovation. Its origin story traces back to 2018 when the Ugandan government, in collaboration with the Uganda Investment Authority, leased the land to M/S Tangshan. This strategic partnership aimed to allocate serviced plots to investors seeking a foothold within the industrial park.
The park’s evolution follows a three-phase trajectory spanning five years. This journey adheres meticulously to an implementation plan, an investment and business strategy, a financing framework, and a localized content approach. Presently, the industrial park accommodates 34 investors at varying stages, collectively providing employment to over 5,000 Ugandans. As 2023 concludes, anticipation heightens for the unveiling of an additional 10 factories, primed for inauguration.

Amid the ranks of the nation’s esteemed 25 industrial parks, the Mbale Industrial Park stands as a testament to President Museveni’s vision for bolstering local material processing to enhance value. Endorsed by Chinese authorities, the Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park receives accolades for its strategic location, Uganda’s favorable policies, expansive growth prospects, and promising returns on investment. Nestled between the capital city of Kampala and the Kenyan border, the park’s positioning optimally facilitates efficient goods distribution across the region and continent.
Beyond its industrial significance, Mbale’s rapid urban expansion has attracted various institutions, including universities, banks, hospitals, hotels, and shopping centers. This urban surge gains further momentum through government-led initiatives such as Operation Wealth Creation, the Youth Livelihood Programme, and the Women’s Fund. With the incorporation of robust infrastructure like the industrial park, Mbale has morphed into East Africa’s agricultural powerhouse, emerging as a pivotal source of sustenance for both the nation and the region.
