In a heartfelt and moving unveiling ceremony held at the prestigious Kampala Sheraton Hotel on Friday, September 22nd, 2023, Oliver Nakakande, the revered Miss Uganda 2019-2021, officially introduced her highly-anticipated book, “The Escape,” to the world. “The Escape” chronicles Nakakande’s extraordinary journey from a life marred by hardship and abuse to one marked by fame and inner serenity, with her Miss Uganda crowning serving as a pivotal moment. The book launch was attended by prominent figures from various fields, including entertainment, music, fashion, pageantry, and the media, making it an unequivocal success.
A panel session featured notable individuals sharing their own stories of overcoming adversity. This included Joram Muzira, Cleopatra Kyoheirwe, and Nana Kagga. Joram, reflecting on his career managing models, revealed, “My family was skeptical about my career choice, some thinking I was ‘selling prostitutes,’ but I persevered despite the negative perceptions.” Nana emphasized her commitment to changing the narrative in the Ugandan film industry, while actor Cleopatra shared her determination to bring positivity into the challenging world of filmmaking. She left the women in the audience with empowering advice: “If you do not define your journey, others will define it for you. So I had to stand up for myself and pursue what I wanted.”
