KABALE –A total of 287 graduands are on the verge of receiving their well-deserved certificates, marking the successful culmination of their studies at Rugarama School of Nursing and Midwifery. In tandem with this celebration, the school is fervently engaged in a fundraising campaign aimed at securing the necessary funds to complete a vital school building.
Addressing a press conference on the 31st of October 2023, Mr. Asiimwe Darius, the Academic Registrar of Rugarama School of Nursing and Midwifery, spoke passionately from the institution’s scenic grounds, nestled on Rugarama Hill in the Northern division of Kabale Municipality. This press conference served as the official announcement for the forthcoming 4th graduation ceremony.The grand event is scheduled to take place on Friday, November 4th, 2023, at the resplendent St. Peter’s Cathedral grounds in Rugarama.

Mr. Darius revealed that among the 287 graduates, there are 185 Nurses and 102 Midwives, comprising 66 male and 221 female graduates. This represents a significant increase in numbers compared to the previous graduation, where 221 graduands marked the occasion. Among them were 120 Nurses, 101 Midwives, 18 male graduates, and 203 female graduates who took their exams between November 2017 and December 2020.
Mr. Darius went on to reflect on the remarkable journey of the institution, noting that it commenced with just 23 students in 2013, offering two courses. Over the years, Rugarama School of Nursing and Midwifery has grown exponentially, currently accommodating 350 students.
Notably, the majority of students hail from the Kigezi region. Moreover, the percentage of male students has surged from 8% in 2021 to an impressive 30% in 2023.Yet, in the midst of their success, Mr. Darius acknowledged a significant challenge.
The school’s potential to educate even more students is hampered by a lack of suitable infrastructure, particularly more buildings.With heartfelt sincerity, he called upon the public to attend the graduation ceremony and actively support the school’s fundraising efforts. The funds raised will play a pivotal role in ensuring the completion of the ongoing construction project.
Furthermore, Mr. Darius shared that the same day marks a special milestone as the school celebrates its 10th anniversary. A decade of dedicated service in nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals.Notably, the school anticipates the esteemed presence of Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister for ICT & National Guidance, as the chief guest for this momentous occasion.
Established by the Diocese of Kigezi, Rugarama School of Nursing and Midwifery commenced operations in November 2013. The school operates under the aegis of the government of the Republic of Uganda through the Ministry of Education and Sports (BTVET Department) and the Ministry of Health (Uganda Nurse and Midwives Council (UNMC)
