Police in Mbarara, with a case registered at Biharwe under CRB 071/2024, have arrested Gloria Mwesigye, the bursar of Metropolitan University in Biharwe, Mbarara district, and her husband after a student who visited their home was later found dead.
The deceased has been identified as Kelleti Mbabazi, a first year student pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Education at Bishop Stuart University in Mbarara.
It all started on February 29, 2024 when Mbabazi, in company of a friend and coursemate, known as Jaberi Amwine, left Bishop Stuart University campus in Kakoba to visit Mwesigye in Biharwe.
Mbabazi was never seen again alive until his lifeless body was discovered in a morgue on March 3, 2024.

According to Jabel Amwine, they had gone to visit their friend Mwesigye with whom they spent the better part of the day.
“At around 8:00 pm, Mwesigye persuaded the duo to sleep in Biharwe to which Mbabazi declined and decided to return to Bishop Stuart University,” Jabeli claimed in his statement to police.
From around that time, Mbabazi’s friends and relatives could not reach him on phone, until his body was found.
However, a police investigation has found holes in Jabeli’s testimony.
Investigators discovered that Jabeli and Mbabazi met Mwesigye and her hubby, who is also a lecturer at Metropolitan University, at the couple’s bar in Biharwe.
The bar is located a few meters away from the couple’s home.
After a few drinks, the two university students and Mwesigye together with her husband later walked to the latter’s house.
Jaberi later left the house to return to the University, leaving his friend Mbabazi at Mwesigye’s home.
Police in Biharwe say they discovered a body without any identification on the morning of Saturday, March 01, which had been dumped around Biharwe, with bruises and deep cuts.
After days of searching, Mbabazi’s landlord was told to check on a body that had been lying in the morgue for days, which would later be positively identified by Mbabazi’s university course mates.
After weeks of slow progress, police this past Sunday arrested Mbabazi and her yet-to-be identified husband along with three other suspects who are believed to have murdered Mbabazi.
Preliminary information suggests that Mbabazi was apparently killed in the house of the Bursar after a yet-to-be known disagreement, who together with other accomplices helped dispose of the body, a few meters away from the university.
Torture
Mbabazi’s family members were shocked by results of the post-mortem which showed that he was tortured to death.
“The people who tortured Mbabazi hammered nails in his feet and arms before cutting his neck.”
Detectives said the torture marks on the deceased’s body have raised suspicion that Mbabazi’s murder was a crime of passion.
“Did the torturers want to extract information from Mbabazi or were punishing him for a suspected affair with Mwesigye?” wondered a cop who has been briefed about the investigation.
Police officials in Mbarara said investigations are underway to establish the motive behind the murder.
Sources said Mwesigye confessed to detectives that Mbabazi was tortured to death at her home.
However, Mwesigye’s husband and his friend who reportedly participated in Mbabazi’s torture, have refused to speak to detectives over unknown reasons.
The case has since been registered at Biharwe under CRB 071/2024.
