It was a vibrant and colourful evening at Bulange Mengo in Kampala as the Buganda region selected its representatives for the Miss Tourism Uganda pageant.
Contestants impressed the audience and judges with performances in spoken word, fashion showcases, and catwalk presentations, highlighting both creativity and cultural pride.
At the end of the event, Naabasumba Rahma was crowned Miss Tourism Buganda, earning the region’s top spot at the national competition. Nakubulwa Vivian was named 1st Runner-Up, while Nakibi Gertrude secured the 2nd Runner-Up position.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of State for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Hon. Susan Nakawuki Nsambu, expressed her appreciation for being part of the celebration.
“I am pleased to be here at Bulange Mengo. It always gives us special pride to gather here with Ssabasajja Kabaka. I am delighted to be part of the Miss Tourism 2026 initiative, which is among the activities marking the 33rd anniversary of the Kabaka’s coronation,” she said.
Nsambu highlighted the significance of this year’s theme, “Intelligent Technology (AI), Culture and Tourism,” noting that it reflects the modern global landscape.
“Across the world, products rely on technology to maintain quality. As we promote our culture and traditional tourism, we must embrace innovation and keep up with emerging trends,” she added.
She emphasised that the Miss Tourism programme provides a platform for young women to showcase their talents while promoting Uganda’s cultural heritage.
“This initiative enables our young women to present Uganda’s true image to the world, especially by promoting cultural tourism, which makes them ambassadors of great value,” she said.
The minister also commended the Kabaka and the Buganda Kingdom leadership, led by the Katikkiro, for their efforts in promoting culture, tourism, and the dignity of the girl child.
“On behalf of the central government, we pledge continued collaboration with the Kingdom to improve the lives of our people,” she noted.
Nsambu congratulated all the contestants and encouraged them to use the experience to grow and make a positive impact.
She also extended congratulations to Ssabasajja Kabaka on his 33rd coronation anniversary, wishing him long life and prosperity.
Meanwhile, other regional selections saw winners crowned in West Nile and Ankole.
In West Nile, Kisa Treasure (Pakwach District) was crowned Queen, followed by Taban Zita Lourdes (Obongi District) as 1st Runner-Up and Awezi Gloria (Maracha District) as 2nd Runner-Up.
In Ankole, Patricia Amutuhaire emerged as Queen, with Ainomugisha Bronia as 1st Runner-Up and Mucureezi Milfat as 2nd Runner-Up.
The Miss Tourism Uganda regional tour continues as preparations intensify for the national competition.
