At 52 years old and with a career that many artists envy, Jennifer Lopez collects accolades and awards, as well as a huge amount of fans. But in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the singer, songwriter and actress opened up about what it feels like to be an “outsider” in the industry for being of Puerto Rican descent.
Considered Latina, JLo was born in New York and spent her early years in the Bronx and received a strict upbringing from her mother, who expected her daughters to succeed in the areas they chose to pursue, but always making them aware of their limitations.
According to the singer, it was impossible to imagine that someone from her background would one day be a pop diva, Hollywood actress and so successful.
Over the course of her career, JLo has recorded 31 films and made nine albums, has had a world tour, has a clothing line, has twins, appears frequently as a judge on “American Idols”, has numerous perfume fragrances and still feels that her career has not escalated to success as she imagined. Even accepting fame and wealth, the artist always felt that she was “scraping the bottom”, as if she wasn’t the one who should be in the room.
