Kin Kariisa’s notorious axe is hanging delicately on the head of Nile Post Editor Jacobs Odongo Seaman with Next Media already head-hunting his replacement.
In recent weeks, a senior manager at the Naguru-based media empire has tapped several online editors about taking over from Seaman. Those tapped include two editors from troubled Daily Monitor, with one of them telling this publication.
Apparently, Next Media had expected the uncertainty at Nation Media Group would provide an easy landing for some of their journalists who are facing a bleak future but one of those tapped decided not to engage further and did not show up for a scheduled meeting in Naguru last Monday.
The development comes after Seaman fell out with Kin’s blue-eyed girl Dorah Atwongyeire and the two are said to have constant disagreements over the running of Nile Post.
Dorah, the head of multimedia platforms at Next Media, is said to be frustrating with Seaman who has become prone to errors and yet he does not listen.
“Some of the errors he makes are costing the company a lot of money. Recently, he failed to do his job in verifying a court report and this cost the company millions of in an out-of-court settlement,” a source said.
“Then came the deepfake photo of Minister Justine Nameere for which he personally wrote a commentary and before we could settle down, he had posted about Gen Moses Ali’s death before any official announcement.”
Seaman was hired from Monitor in 2024 on a bumper pay apparently on the recommendation of then Chief News Editor Dalton Kaweesa.
But Dalton has since lost the job and although he remains at Next Media handling current affairs and other obscure works, Seaman apparently has continued to work believing Dalton will be redeployed so he continues to enjoy the patronage.
