Kyengera Central College’s student film Road to Success has gained attention following its official entry into the Pearlwood Film Awards 2026, a national programme aimed at promoting youth storytelling through cinema.

The film, which has already been showcased through community screening sessions involving students and local residents, focuses on the realities of student life, including academic pressure, family expectations, discipline, and personal ambition.

The Pearlwood Film Awards initiative is introducing secondary schools into a structured national competition where films will be screened every Monday and Thursday and evaluated on creativity and audience engagement.

Jacqueline Kobusinge, Managing Director of the programme, said the initiative is designed to elevate young voices and expand creative expression.

“This is about giving students a platform to tell their own stories and have them recognised nationally,” she said.

Kyengera Central College’s participation places it among the early entrants into the competition, highlighting growing interest in film as both an educational and expressive tool.

A teacher from the school emphasized the importance of co-curricular activities, noting that the project has had a positive impact on learners.

“Students are not going off track,” the teacher said. “They are discovering their talents and learning how to express themselves in meaningful ways that academics alone cannot achieve.”

The National Theatre has also encouraged parents and communities to support learners engaged in creative arts, stressing that many of the challenges portrayed in the film reflect real societal experiences.
